Stockholm trip: Tying up transport details

Updated: Nov 4, 2018

We had a wedding to attend in Vilnius at Lithuania. Since most flights were going via Kiev, we decided to have a stopover at Stockholm, stay there for a couple of days and then take a low cost carrier out of Stockholm to Vinius.

It was a 2 Nights, 3 Days stopover. But as we were reaching Arlanda in the evening, we actually had only one full day to ourselves. From Delhi , we took the Air India flight and landed at Arlanda Airport at 7.30pm. I think we must have changed hotels at least thrice in search of the best location near to the city centre and after reading hundreds of reviews. As our hotel, Scandic no 53, was pretty far from the airport, at the airport itself we booked our seats online on the Flygbussarna Airport Coach to Stockholm city centre.

Our next mission was to locate a store that sells Stockholm Travel cards. We had planned to buy a 24 hour Travel card to avail of free public transport by bus, metro and ferry so that we could travel from one place of interest to another according to our itinerary, without having to bother or spend too much on transport. And to really imbibe the local sights and sounds of the place. We found a Pressbyran store near the Airport terminal, where we picked up our travelcards. In Sweden, Euros are not accepted. So , as we had carried some SEKs (Swedish Kroners), we bought some with that. Others used their prepaid forex cards.

.....we tracked down a Pressbyran store near the Airport terminal, to pick up our travel cards.

....we found a bus stop right outside the terminal, where every 10 mins, a Flygbussarna coach is slotted

.......we reach our centrally placed hotel..

We had initially planned to have dinner at this water front restaurant called , Strandbryggan Sea Club restaurant. But it got so late that all we could do was take a walk along the Strandbryggan water side , come back and have a burger from a Burger King near to our hotel and call it a day.

.......walking along Strandbryggan......after 7pm, all kitchens close....only bars are open....
