11 Interesting Things to do in Prague

Updated: Dec 21, 2018

Prague...the Pure and Beautiful.....The capital of Czech Republic, Prague is Beautiful. She knows it and is at peace with it. No ostentiousness about her. One of the few European cities which were neither destroyed by wars nor rebuilt again...that's where her purity of form comes from. Architecturally a mix of Gothic, Romanesque and Renaissance...she leaves one spell bound...

Hear are some guided tours by locals, some hidden gems and some do's and dont's we learnt from our recent trip to this beautiful city.

1. A walk along the Charles Bridge. Best done early morning, during sunrise, with less crowd. This is a lesson we learnt as we did it during dusk and night to find the bridge loaded down with tourists. Have breakfast in one of those numerous cafes at the city side of the bridge, before walking down, looking out onto the river Vlatava and Petrin hill.

2. After walking down the Charles bridge, locate and visit a museum tucked away, called Karel Zemen Museum, a museum about film special effects. It will provide fantastic photshoots against fantastic backdrops.

4. Explore the Lenon wall on your way to the furnicular train of Petrin hill

5. Get a beautiful birds eye view of the beautiful city of a thousand spires, lying in tranquility on either side of the River Vlatava, from Petrin hill top. The furnicular train is covered under the Travel card, if you have purchased one. Although you need to pay an entrance fee once on top. You can also plan to have a meal there at menza strahov ( Menza Strahov Jezdecká )

6. Take a Half day city tour, including a river cruise. You will not regret it. The Czech guides are full of wit and humor, besides being very informative about the places you visit. They will walk you finally to the Old Town, which you can then explore at leisure.

7.Go to Wencelas Square. Its more of a Boulevard to walk down than a square. Most famous things to watch out for is the National Museum and The Wencelass Monument, besides the various architecture, shopping, hotels and shops

8. Visit the BATA shoe store there.

9. Locate and visit the revolving statue head of Franz Kafka , made of metallic chips.

10. See the Dancing house in passing , if you travel by tram 5, 17

11. Use Tram 22, as a Hop on Hop off. It passes through Namesti Miru / Peace Square,

IP Pavlova, Karlovo namesti /Charles Square, Narodni trida /National Avenue, Ujezd, Malostranske namesti, Malostranska, Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle), Pohorelec. Of course some of these will be covered in your guided tour. But you can just sit back and relax and get off when there is a beautiful church or an interesting local market, etc.
