Abu dhabi is the capital of the UAE and also the capital of the largest of the seven emirates that comprise the UAE. Abu dhabi is the hub of Etihad airlines so if you have a long layover in Abu dhabi, make good use of your time and go on a whirlwind tour of Abu dhabi. You can also visit Abu dhabi from Dubai by taxi or bus. There is a regular bus service with buses leaving every half an hour and it takes about 2 hours.
The two must-see landmark s of Abu dhabi are the Sheikh Zayed mosque and the Louvre, Abu dhabi. Besides, the Abu dhabi corniche or promenade is also very nice.

The Sheikh Zayed grand mosque

Saturday to Thursday: 9 am to 10 pm
Friday: 4:30 pm to 10 pm
Please note that sleeveless shirts, shorts and skirts are not allowed to be worn inside the premises. Abayas for women are provided at the entrance.
The main prayer hall houses the largest handmade carpet in the world. There are 7 crystal chandeliers which are exquisitely crafted in Germany. The arcades have columns which have beautiful inlay work of precious and semi-precious stones.
There is a golf cart that takes you to the mosque from the gate or if you want you can walk it out.
In the evening if you have time, head to the promenade and relax.
